Climb your mountain: two steps to achieve your goals
The end is galloping towards us.
If you are disappointed with the progress you have made on your goals this year, taking the following two steps may help you climb your mountain in 2025.
Dentists are inclined to miss these steps in the goal-setting process. But they are important as they help you take a positive and practical approach to pursuing your goals.

1. Reflect and congratulate yourself
Begin your goal-setting by reflecting on what you already have in life and what you have achieved personally and in your business.
It’s easy to overlook what you already enjoy and have accomplished.
When you adopt this approach, you have an optimistic perspective from which to set your future goals.

2. Focus on small actions
To set your goals, consider the big picture. To know what you are aiming for.
But the top of the mountain should not be your focus.
A dentist in Kent set the goal of maximising his ‘hygiene concentration rate’—making sure as many patients who would benefit from seeing the hygienist did so.
He took the small step of being present for every daily huddle meeting.
By doing this, he ensured that his team highlighted opportunities to discuss perioperative scores and the benefits of hygiene sessions with non-hygiene patients.
And steadily, by taking this small step consistently and persistently, he climbed his mountain.
